Hi there! It’s been a while.

Wow – it has been one busy month. I realized my last post was on June 1st and today is July 5th – yikes! June was busy, but busy in the best way possible. Here are some highlights from the past four weeks:

Began graduate school

Wrapped up my second year teaching Pre-K

Ran the Leadville Trail Marathon and the B.A.A. 10K

GOT ENGAGED!

So, lots of exciting stuff happened within the past 30 days, and I’m looking forward to this summer. Now that teaching is on hold for a couple months, I have more time to focus on my graduate studies as well as my training (and blogging) 🙂

I cannot wait to share about Leadville and my engagement to Kyle. However, that will be in a separate post.

For now, I want to speed you all up on the B.A.A. (Boston Athletic Association) 10k I ran last Sunday.

Leadville was exactly eight days prior to the 10K and my legs were still tired from the climbs and run, so I honestly went into this race without any designated time or pace. A 10K is equivalent to 6.2 miles, so while this wasn’t exactly a huge run for me, it was long enough that my legs would be feeling sore and tired from Leadville. So, I made it my goal to have fun and to take it easy!

The race started on Sunday at 8:00am. Kyle has gone to every race I’ve ever run (how loyal is he?!) but his college friends were visiting, so the 10K was a “pass” for him. I arrived at the Boston Common at 7:30am and it was already scorching hot. I didn’t need to check any gear so I just headed straight to the starting line.

I absolutely love the B.A.A. races because not only is Boston a beautiful city, but the support from the crowds and other runners is unbelievable. Even on a Sunday morning, the streets were lined with people cheering, ringing bells, holding up signs…I can’t imagine what the Boston Marathon is like!

Similar to the B.A.A. 5K which I blogged about here, this race took you from the Boston Common down Commonwealth Avenue heading west. I enjoyed the beginning and ending of this run because the closer we were to the Boston Common, the more shade there was. But when we were on Comm. Ave running through BU’s campus, it was so hot – no shade at all. Needless to say I stopped at about four water/gatorade stations to hydrate and take a breather.

I think I’m mouthing the words, “I’m thirsty. Toss me a cup of water please”.

Feeling accomplished!

The next race in the B.A.A. Distance Medley is the half marathon in October. As of right now, this is my next race. No races scheduled for this summer, and I’m 100% okay with that. I’m taking July as a light month of running and will begin marathon training come August. So right now, I’m having fun doing BBG strength training workouts and spinning, with a splash of running here and there.

      1. Good for you!! Are you training for anything specifically as well? I got engaged a few months ago and it was hard to concentrate on marathon training for a bit! Enjoy!! 😄

      2. Thanks! So I’m in between marathon training cycles now, so right now, no not training for anything. Just having fun doing strength training and getting into spinning! Come August, I’ll start marathon training again. I’m running a marathon in November and hopefully the Boston half marathon in October so that’s what I’ll be training for. Congratulations on your engagement as well! 🙂
